Department of Physics :

Department of Physics: The Department came into existence in 1963 along with other Science Departments for imparting post-graduate education (M. Sc. Degree) and for promoting research. In its initial days, Prof. P. L. Khare and Prof. C. Mande nurtured the department. Prof. C. Mande was a fellow of Indian Academy of Sciences and of National Academy of Sciences. He produced several Ph. D. students including P. C. Deshmukh (ex-Head, Dept. of Physics, IIT(Chennai)), A. V. Pimple (UGC-DAE CSR), A. S. Nigavekar (former chairman UGC, ex- VC Pune University). We continued to get an outstanding leadership. Prof. Rajagopan and Prof. Sapre who also served as head of department were Fullbright fellows. Another Head of Department Prof. Kamal Singh became VC of Amaravati University. Department has produced several outstanding students such as Padmashree Dr. A. Malik (DRDO), Dr. A. V. Kolaskar (ex-VC, Pune Univ.), Dr. S. Mande(Bhatanagar Award(2005)) to name a few. We have a sanctioned faculty strength of 12 faculty members and we have 10 faculty members now.

Department of Chemistry :

The DST-FIST and UGC SAP assisted postgraduate Department of Chemistry is one of the oldest department in the central India to be established by the University of Nagpur in June 1963. It offers an excellent education in the field of chemical sciences along with research activities encompassing all major sub-disciplines of chemistry. The department has received funds from the University Grants Commission (UGC), DST, BRNS and DAE. The Department has organized national and international conferences, seminars, workshops, symposia and other academic program to facilitate and promote research in all branches of chemistry. Department has the unique facility of Gamma Irradiation which was procured through DST-FIST grant. The other departments in the University, affiliated colleges as well as the other Universities are taking help of the facility. GC-1200 is the unique facility in the central India. The Department has Procured major equipment LC-MS/MS triple quadruple from UGC-SAP, DRS-I.

Department of Mathematics :

The Department of Mathematics was established in the year 1963 under the headship of Prof. B.S. Fadnis. The department runs regular two year (four semester) M.Sc. course. The post graduate students in Mathematics are encouraged to carry out research work leading to the award of Ph.D. as well as M. Phil degree. The department is well known for its contribution in various fields of Mathematics including Relativity, Cosmology, Fluid Mechanics, Thermo elasticity, Operation Research, Algebra etc. The department is also selected under the Special Assistance Program SAP (DRS Level II) funded by U.G.C, New Delhi and Fund for Improvements of Science & Technology Infrastructure (FIST level I) for the period of 5 years.

Department of Statistics :

Post Graduate Teaching Department of Statistics came into existence in the year 1976 under the leadership of Late Dr. B.S. Fadnis, the then head, Department of Mathematics. The Department made a significant progress within a few years. In the year 1979, Late Dr. A.B. Buche, a distinguished personality in the field of Stochastic Processes and Functional equations joined the department as the first Professor and Head. After Dr. Buche, Dr. Mrs. M. V. Khaparde, Dr. S. P. Kane and Dr. P.G. Khot worked as Head of the Department. Faculty members of the department have completed two major Research Projects and one minor Research Project. The faculty members of the department are carrying out research work in the different fields of statistics. The department is active in updating the curriculum and encouraging research. Different fields of Statistics in which research is being carried out includes Stochastic Processes, operations Research, Applied Probability Theory, Statistical quality control, Randomized clinical trials. Faculty members of the department are actively involved in various academic activities nationally and internationally.

Department of Electronics and Computer Science Image
Department of Electronics and Computer Science :

This Department was set up in 1987-88 in this university to bring awareness of the Electronics instrumentation and Computers; and impart quality education to the students in this region. This Department conducted its classes initially in the Department of Physics and later on shifted to an independent and existing building in the University campus in 1992. Currently, the Department is offering four semester (CBCS) two post graduate programs: M. Sc. Electronics and M. Sc. Computer Science; and Ph. D. programs in Electronics and Computer Science in the faculty of Science and Technology. Since its inception, the Department has been continuously striving to provide quality education to the students and help the students to carry out state of the art project at the final year. The Department also conducts high quality research in Electronic instrumentation and analysis. The Department has an academic collaboration with University of Porto, Portugal and premier institutes of India such as Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur; Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, Mumbai and Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology, Nagpur.
